The Artist-Economist: Bridging Rigorous Economics and Creative Inquiry
With four decades of experience bridging high-level economic analysis and fine art, my career has spanned the corridors of government trade negotiations, international commercial law firms, and the contemporary art studio.
Professional Background & Experience
Private Practice: For the past 18 years, I have operated as an independent economic consultant specialising in trade law, anti-dumping, and regulatory policy. Previously, I served as Chief Economist and Head of the European Trade Practice at Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw for seven years, and as Director of MGK Trade Policy Consultants.
Government Service: I began my career in the UK Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) as a senior economic assistant during the Uruguay Round of GATT/WTO negotiations, representing the UK at meetings in Brussels, GATT, and UNCTAD.
Mentoring & Human Recovery
Addiction & Spiritual Mentorship: Alongside four decades of economic policy, I have spent 18 years providing dedicated 1-to-1 mentoring and spiritual guidance for individuals recovering from addiction and alcoholism. This deep, ground-level work in human transformation and recovery informs my broader approach to leadership mentoring and executive defamiliarization—bringing genuine empathy, a dismantling of institutional ego, and an unwavering commitment to human wellbeing into every advisory relationship.
Fine Art Practice
The Artist-Economist: Alongside my economic advisory work, I maintain an active fine art practice, exploring the creative space between commercial systems, institutional structures, and human meaning.
Author & Commentator
I am the author of The Global Anti-Dumping Handbook and numerous editions of the Global Trade Protection Report.
Media & Press: My research and commentary have been featured across international media outlets including CNN and CNBC, alongside publications like the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, and The Economist.
